The University of Technology: Sydney will be hosting microWAVE, a microbudget filmmaking symposium on Sat 19th Feb 2011

The day will feature screenings, Q&A’s, masterclasses, case studies, workshops and panel discussions.

SHORT CIRCUIT SEMINAR

More people are making short films than ever before. But what happens once the film is made? How do you ensure that as many people as possible get to see your work? 

This course covers all the essentials about festival submission, where to screen your work locally, the value in aligning your film with a distributor, and the pros and cons of releasing your work online.

This panel discussion featuring short film professionals will let you in on all the hot tips to make sure your film becomes the calling card that launches you into the next stage of your filmmaking career.

From Shorts To Features Workshop

From Shorts To Features see’s three of Australia’s hottest new directors talking about the highlights, lowlights and everything in between on the road to making a feature film and carving a career in the film industry.

Short film plays a pivotal role in a directors career - it offers the chance to explore character development, formulate techniques, develop a unique aesthetic and style, while learning the ropes with always-changing technology and dealing with a cast, crew and budgets. Claire McCarthy (The Waiting City), Brendan Fletcher (Mad Bastards) and Andrew Lancaster (Accidents Happen) will share stories on their process, how dreams can be turned into reality and the honest truths every aspiring film maker needs to know about the business.

As part of the Bondi Short Film Festival, Apple will host a series of inspirational talks with filmmakers as well as educational workshops on iMovie and Final Cut Pro. The events will be moderated by Francis Coady, founder and director of the Bondi Short Film Festival, now in its tenth year.

Meet photographer and filmmaker Keith Loutit as he discusses how he used his pioneering tilt-shift/time-lapse photography technique to transform iconic and familiar Sydney scenes into miniature wonderlands for his latest project, Small Worlds. This will be moderated by Francis Coady, found and director of the Bondi Short Film Festival.

Meet the Filmmaker: Max Walker

Australian filmmaker Max Walker has worked in some of the most dangerous regions of the world. In 2009, he travelled to Iraq to document the quest of fellow filmmaker Sam Zuisradras, an Australian/ Iraqi man on a mission to discover why his long-lost father was found in a mass grave just north of Baghdad. Join us as Max talks about working without a film crew and reveals an alternative form of filmmaking in a conflict zone. The film Max will be talking about is set to screen on SBS, on SBS on Tuesday 23rd November at 8:30pm. This will be moderated by Francis Coady, found and director of the Bondi Short Film Festival.
